01 — Düsseldorf

Why the product passport hits Düsseldorf especially hard.

Düsseldorf lives on brands, collections and retail – exactly the fields where the Digital Product Passport becomes visible first:

  • Fashion & textiles: Apparel is in the first ESPR priority group. The textiles delegated act is expected for late 2026/2027, with the obligation following no earlier than ~2028 – but collection cycles and supply-chain data from the Far East need considerably more lead time. The destruction ban on unsold textiles applies to large companies from 19 July 2026.
  • Retail & private labels: Düsseldorf’s retail headquarters and distribution companies carry full manufacturer responsibility for private labels – and must ensure the passport obligation is met for imported goods before they are placed on the market.
  • The steel region next door: Between the Rhine and the Ruhr sits Europe’s densest steel and metal-processing cluster – the delegated act for iron & steel is expected as early as 2026 and radiates out to the region’s traders and processors.
  • Trade-fair city: At Düsseldorf’s trade fairs, circularity data, recycled content and DPP capability are increasingly becoming booth talk – those with solid answers sell more easily across Europe.

03 — FAQ

Frequently asked questions from Düsseldorf.

Do you come to Düsseldorf for workshops?

Yes. We are happy to run kick-offs, collection data audits and management workshops with you in Düsseldorf or on the Lower Rhine; project work afterwards runs remote – including across season changes.

The textile DPP only arrives ~2028 – why start now?

Because the goods hanging on your rails in 2028 are ordered in 2027 and developed in 2026/2027. Fibre data, production sites and recycled content have to come from a multi-tier supply chain – and in our experience that takes longer than the 18-month transition period. Starting when the delegated act is published means starting too late.

We trade in steel products – does the textile discussion not concern us at all?

A different delegated act is relevant for you: iron & steel is expected as the first ESPR product group as early as 2026. Traders and processors will then have to pass on or verify their upstream suppliers’ passports – the systems question is the same as in textiles, just earlier.

What does getting started cost?

The first consultation is free; the readiness check is a compact fixed-price package. Everything beyond that depends on your assortment and systems and is quoted transparently after the check.
