01 — Hamburg

Why the product passport hits Hamburg especially hard.

Hamburg is Germany’s gateway to world trade – and that is exactly where the Digital Product Passport takes hold: at the question of who brings products into the EU and who is liable for their data.

  • Imports & the port economy: Anyone importing goods from third countries takes on importer obligations – and soon that includes ensuring every affected product is registered in the EU DPP registry before being placed on the market. Without a valid passport, goods risk being stopped at the border.
  • Retail & e-commerce: Hamburg’s trading houses and online retailers carry full manufacturer responsibility for private labels – and must also check that listed third-party products come with a passport.
  • Consumer goods & brands: From apparel and furniture to coffee machines: many product groups traded through Hamburg are on the ESPR working plan – delegated acts are expected step by step from late 2026.
  • Wind power & energy storage: Northern Germany’s renewables cluster works with stationary storage and industrial batteries – for batteries above 2 kWh, the battery passport from 18 Feb 2027 is the first hard deadline.

03 — FAQ

Frequently asked questions from Hamburg.

Do you run workshops directly at our offices in Hamburg?

Yes. We are happy to run kick-offs, data audits and management briefings on site in Hamburg or the surrounding region; ongoing project work then continues efficiently remote.

We import consumer goods from Asia – what does the DPP mean for us in concrete terms?

As an importer you will have to ensure that every affected product has a valid product passport registered in the EU registry before it is placed on the market. The registry launches on 19 July 2026; sourcing data from suppliers should start well before your delegated act arrives.

We run battery-storage projects in the wind sector – does the battery passport affect us?

Very likely yes: industrial batteries above 2 kWh need a battery passport from 18 Feb 2027, covering carbon footprint, material data and performance metrics. Anyone manufacturing or importing storage systems is on the hook.

What does getting started cost?

The first consultation is free; the readiness check is a compact fixed-price package. After that, you decide on the basis of a transparent quote whether and how to proceed.
